Must-See Exhibitions 2016 — The Art Partners

2016 promises to be very saturated with exciting projects and shows of new upcoming artists for all art professionals and connoisseurs. The Art Partners picked up the most anticipated projects of 2016 in Europe and United States, which can not be missed. At the beginning of the year, if you plan to visit New York, you should definitely go to the Whitney Museum of American Art. From 26th of February to the middle of May there will be shown special project by Lucy Dodd titled Open Plan. During this project Lucy Dodd will be present at the exhibition and be creating new works in situ using unusual materials; experimental space will occupy the fifth floor of the museum. Transformation of the museum space into the studio will bring to the project note of improvisation and insight to the creativity of an artist.

*Edgar Degas: A Strange New Beauty at MoMa*

Also, the Museum of Modern Art is going to host an exhibition of Edgar Degas A Strange New Beauty. This will be the first exhibition in the United States over the past 50 years, which will showcase his rare works - monotypes that had a great impact on his artistic style. It will feature approximately 130 monotypes along with some 50 related works, including paintings, drawings, pastels, sketchbooks, and prints, to be seen only at MoMA.

It will be worth to visit Berlin until 10th April, where it will be possible to see the exhibition of Jackson Pollock's Mural: Energy Made Visible in the Kunsthalle. Commissioned by Peggy Guggenheim for the lobby of her apartment in New York City and completed in summer 1943, Mural is not only one of the most important works of American modernism but, in addition to that, one of the essential steps in the development of contemporary American art. The exhibition is accompanied by an impressive number of photos from Kicken collection and Jackson Pollock’s key works from prominent private collections.

*Upcoming exhibtion of Rolling Stones heritage at Saatchi Gallery*

This spring in London Saatchi Gallery will show a major exhibition of The Rolling Stones. During this ambitious project, Exhibitionism, will be shown more than 500 items from the personal archive of the group. This is an amazing opportunity to observe the 50 years history and development of the group, not only through art and design objects but also through all sorts of videos, performances, sound recordings and rare musical instruments.

*New Building of Tate Modern, which will be opened to the public in June 2016*

However, the most long-awaited event in London will be the opening of Tate Modern new building on June 17, 2016. A New ten-storey building, designed by Herzog & de Meuron, will rise from behind the power station as a new iconic addition to the London skyline and will provide the museum with additional space for galleries and art exhibitions. This opening will be also followed up in July with a comprehensive exhibition of Georgie O'Keeffe. This ambitious and wide-ranging overview will review O’Keeffe’s work in depth and reassess her place in the canon of twentieth-century art.

In September, the Royal Academy of Arts will host a full-scale exhibition of one of the most powerful and emotional movement of the 20th century - abstract expressionism. For the first time will be brought together in one exhibition space major works of famous artists such as Jackson Pollock, Paul Newman, Willem de Kooning, Franz Kline, Lee Krasner and many others.

*Rene Magritte 'The listening room' (La Chambre d'Écoute, 1952)*

In Paris, this autumn Centre Pompidou will present an exhibition of works by Belgian surrealist artist - Rene Magritte. One of the main objectives of this exhibition La Trahison des Images is to show the artist's reflections around the theme of the deceitfulness of reality. Besides, there will be a new presentation of museum modern collection from 1905 to 1965. This circuit, now reworked in depth, returns to a chronological format featuring major historical milestones.

By the end of the year at Tate Modern is planned another retrospective of American artist Robert Rauschenberg. During his remarkable six-decade-long career, Rauschenberg became known for his combines, in which non-traditional materials have been used and innovative items for that time. This is first large-scale exhibition of his works in the UK in 35 years, specifically for which will be loaned works, that are rarely permitted to travel.
